Frames from the day

  1. Mehndi in the courtyard the night before. One artist, four hours, one pair of hands.

  2. The baraat was eleven people and a single nagada. It still took an hour to cover forty metres.

  3. Kanyadaan at first light, because her father wanted it done before the heat came up.

  4. Phere with the fire between them and nobody standing behind us. That is rare and we did not waste it.

  5. Her mangalsutra went on while the cook was already calling everyone to eat.
